Local SMEs to ‘connect minds, creating the future’ at ‘Expo 2020 Dubai’

The ongoing pandemic have compelled numerous events to be cancelled or postponed. Since being invited to the ‘Expo 2020 Dubai’ in 2016 by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and the Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Maldives has been one of the countries looking forward to showcase local products and talent to the world via this luck chance. Inevitably, ‘Expo 2020 Dubai’ was also postponed due the pandemic by a year.

‘Expo 2020 Dubai’ is ironically scheduled to take place on 1st October 2021 to 31st March 2022. This will be the first ever world expo held in the region welcoming over 190 countries as participants and millions as vistors. It is held under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ for honoring humanity’s resilience, creativity, culture and innovation for a shared future.

Ministry of Economic Development has announced a remarkable decision yesterday by facilitating chances for local Small and Medium Enterprises to showcase their work and market their products to the international audience through the expo which will effectively empower such businesses and help them expand. This will be administered through the Ministry’s Business Center Cooperation.

Interested parties are guided to send their names and contact details to expo2020@trade.gov.mv before 12pm on 28th of October. An information session will be held based on this information on 1st November 2020 at the Ministry. Official applications must be submitted before 12pm on 15th of November via application form.
