MFDA Warns Against Carbon Monoxide Treated Fish

After conducting a sample research based on the informiton received that some fish being sold on the market are treated with Carbonmonoxide to maintain the color of it, Maldives Food and Drug Authority has confirmed the allegations.

This treatment is known to maintain the color of the fish irrelevant of its freshness, hence, there is no way to confirm how long the fish has been sitting on the shelf. Because as the color of the fish is one of the indicators which reflects its freshness, the Carbon Monoxide treatment may cause misinterpretation of it as still being fresh.

Therefore, people who buy and sell fishes should be cautious. If you come across of the given situation above, inform the authorities. You can reach through the Viber number 7603204 after sending a picture with the information.
