Hirilandhoo Islanders’ Concerns Shared with VP During Council Meeting

An official meeting was held on Sunday morning at the President’s Office between members of the Kolhumadulu Atoll Hirilandhoo Island Council and Vice President Faisal Naseem.  
 
During the meeting, councilors discussed the most pressing issues and concerns of the island community with the VP. These included the scarcity of land faced by residents of Hirilandhoo island, which was supposed to be solved by the land reclamation project. In response, VP assured the council that the matter will be discussed with relevant authorities to speed up the process. He mentioned doing the same for the ongoing water and sewerage project as well, which was raised by the councilors.  
 
Moreover, Hirilandhoo islanders’ worries about not having adequate facilities in the health sector, school infrastructure, and lack of economic opportunities in this regard were also expressed to the VP during the meeting. The matters were duly noted and to be carried to relevant authorities for updates and solutions to the matters by the VP. 
 
VP also shared hope with the council and briefed on the Solar PV project to be carried out on the Island, treatment for victims of substance abuse and efficiently conducting administrative operations under the decentralization policy. 
 
On a positive note, councilors thanked Bank of Maldives for the express service in establishing a self-service ATM on the island. This has greatly eased the banking needs of the islanders, said the members.
