New Prison Medical Facility Inaugurated at Maafushi Prison

VP Faisal Naseem launched the new Medical Center located in the prison premises in K.Maafushi on his visit to the island yesterday. VP was accompanied by Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem, Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, Minister of President Office, Ahmed Sameer and senior representatives of Maldives Correctional Services. 

 
Previously the prison inmates had to be transported off the island if they needed medical services. However, with the opening of The new Medical Center that is equipped to provide the inmates with General OPD, emergency services, laboratory services, minor surgeries, physiotherapy, x-ray services, telemedicine services and the 10-person rehabilitation center, it will make it easier for both inmates and prison guards to keep the inmates at bay. 
 
Expressing his confidence in the system, VP highlighted that the availability of the important medical care will leave a positive impact on the welfare and rehabilitation of the inmates. VP also urged all personals working in the detention and rehabilitation, should aim to prepare all inmates to become responsible and respected members of the society again. 
 
During his trip, VP also visited Maafushi School, Maafushi Health Center and the football grounds of the island.
