Vice President Attends Reception Hosted By The Indian High Commission

Vice President Faisal Naseem attended a special event held by the Indian High Commission in the Maldives to mark India's 75th anniversary of independence. The Vice President was the honored guest at tonight's event at Hotel Jen. 

Speaking at the event, Vice President Faisal Naseem sent warm congratulations and best wishes on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Maldives to President of the Republic of India, H.E Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Indian people on the joyful occasion. 

The Vice President described the decades leading up to India attaining independence, in 1947. He stated that India's road to become a premier sovereign nation in under 75 years serves as an inspiration to the whole globe. Vice President Faisal Naseem further stated that when the Maldives gained independence from British protectorate status, India was one of the first countries to recognize the Maldives as an independent state. 
 
Vice President Faisal Naseem highlighted the help offered for the development of the social sector, particularly the High Impact Community Development Projects under India's assistance, which supported the Government's decentralisation efforts to bring about countrywide development. 

A video presentation on the historical links between India and the Maldives was shown during tonight's event. It also featured a video about Addu City's fresh water and road development initiatives. Following the films, the Indian Cultural Centre entertained the visitors with a cultural show. 

 He also recognised India's tremendous support on all fronts concerning the Covid-19 pandemic. The Vice President expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Government of India for its tremendous support to the Maldives during these difficult times. 

In conclusion, Vice President Faisal Naseem emphasized that the Maldives is dedicated to strengthening its cooperation with India and would maintain the two countries' longstanding friendship.
