President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih paid a visit to Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam (the Islamic Centre) this afternoon to assess the development of the new Covid-19 vaccination program for children aged 12 to 17.
With the launch of this ambitious initiative, the Maldives has become one of the first countries in the world to begin immunization for young infants. Last Monday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the Maldives had successfully obtained enough doses of the Pfizer vaccine to immunize all youngsters aged 12 to 17. He also stated that the Maldives had successfully obtained enough vaccine doses to immunize all people of all ages.
By the end of the preceding week, more than 80% of the Maldives' eligible population had gotten the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination, and 69% had finished both doses. The government's continuing countrywide mass vaccination effort intends to fully immunize 90% of the eligible population by the end of August 2021.
