Another Successful Milestone Covered by Tree Top Hospital

By deploying the latest technology into providing the utmost top-notch services, Tree Top Hospital has been achieving one after the other milestone in the Maldivian medical field. Today, the hospital has announced the successful completion of its first Congenital Hip Dislocation surgery by a team of experienced healthcare experts in the field.

The surgery was performed on a preterm baby with multiple congenital deformities and abnormal conditions, the first such patient at TTH. A complication in the postnatal adaptation called on the immediate intensive care initially.

TTH had previously introduced Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip screening program which enables the identification of hip joint abnormalities that vary in severity from a complete dislocation to mild irregularities of the hip joint. If caught and treated in a timely manner, the situation can be prevented from limb length discrepancy, limp, waddling gait or restricted range of motion of the hip joint. Thanks to the screening process, the condition was detected in the patient and care was scheduled as required.

The team that performed the surgery was led by of Dr. Hussain Faisal Consultant Orthopedics, who was assisted by Dr. Ingrid Mornarova Constultant Neonatology, and Dr. Warren Caballa Consultant Anesthesiology. They were skillfully aided by the whole NICU team in stabilizing the patient.

The treatment started with Dr. Faisal correcting the Bilateral Clubfoot Deformity with standard treatment method applications. Once stable for the hip dislocation correction procedure, the baby was prepped for surgery by Dr. Caballa and the anesthesia team. Following this. The first of its kind Congenital Hip Dislocation surgery was performed by Dr. Faisal, by using hip arthrography, open reduction and applied hip spica procedures.

The baby is currently undergoing complex therapy followed by a multidisciplinary approach for the recovery since the discharge.
