The Maldives' Special Envoy for Climate Change talks with the Regional Ambassador to the United Nations Conference

Ms Sabra Noordeen, the Maldives' Special Envoy for Climate Change, and Ms Aminath Shauna, the Maldives' Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, met with Mr Ken O'Flaherty, UK Government's COP26 Regional Ambassador to Asia-Pacific and South Asia. The British High Commissioner to the Maldives, Ms Caron Rohsler also attended the meeting.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology on August 10, 2021.

The Maldivian authorities presented the government's updated NDC and promise to reach net zero emissions by 2030, but they also emphasized that the Maldives' measures will not be enough to mitigate the effects of uncontrolled global warming.

Ms. Noordeen welcomed the COP26 Regional Ambassador to the Maldives and noted that nations like the Maldives needed continuous and timely access to financial and technical help for mitigation and adaptation.

The attendees reviewed the path leading up to COP26, which will take place in Glasgow in November this year, emphasizing the importance of climate action and the need to translate ambition into action in order to fulfill the best case scenarios outlined in the latest IPCC assessment.

All participants expressed optimism for a successful and pleasant conclusion at COP26.
