A Major Celebration As Schools Open Today!

Ever since COVID19 hit, schools and offices closed, forcing children and parents to stay home. This resulted in major impact in their mental and physical development, especially on children. Schooling plays a major role in children’s growth as it is the foundation that will shape them for their future. 

The Education Ministry of Maldives has reached their goal to re-open schools today fro a new academic year with utmost safety in mind. This lists Maldives among the few countries to have done this amid continuous waves of the pandemic observed around the world. At a press conference held yesterday, Minister of Education, Dr. Aishath Ali emphasized on the important protective measures the schools will be taking ahead of the opening. 

The school sessions will go as it went pre-COVID and the teachers along with the staff at the school will be following the guidelines set by HPA. Since there are strict rules that staff and parents who have not completed their first doze of vaccine will not be allowed inside the schools from September 1st onwards, the minister urges the parents and teachers to make sure to get the vaccination process completed. 

The Director General of Education Ministry, Fathimath Azza also highlighted in the press conference that 96% of the teachers from all over Maldivian schools, have completed their first doze of vaccinations. She also brought light to the student’s vaccination program that will take place for students from 12yrs to 18yrs of age. For this program, the consent of parents along with the students will be taken. 

Azza also highlighted that the main aspect of the orientation programs held for parents is to spread awareness about COVID19 and the vaccination process. After this orientation, the parents will receive a Green Card that has to be presented at the school which will show that parents and the students are vaccinated. 

A special assembly was held this morning in attendance of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Minister of Education at Rehendhi School.
