Solar Powered Drip Irrigation Network Established In R.Fainu

Solar-powered irrigation networks have been established on the farmlands in R. Fainu by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture. The station was built in collaboration with the island council.

The island won the proposal filed after the announcement of deep irrigation projects in 2019. The work is being done under the Ministry's P.S.I.P. The project aims to establish irrigation without damaging the water layer in the fields.

A special ceremony was held to inaugurate the mechanism on the island and it was graced by the presence of Minister of Fisheries, Marine resources and Agriculture, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan. He personally inspected the work.

The idea behind the mechanism is to utilize renewable energy in watering the fields. Therefore, 4 solar pumps of 750 kW and 16 solar panels of 250 kW each are used for the operation that is strong enough to completely water farm area of up to 10,000 acres of 10 fields. The aim of this project is to minimize the use of electricity and water for farming. This technologically advanced approach will modernize farming projects and is subsidized by the government.

R.Fainu is an island that possesses a large area of land. A large portion of the islanders work in the field of agriculture mostly done on the island.
