As our economy still suffers from the harsh treatment of COVID19, we are in the midst of getting back to normal. However, there are people who still have a hard time with financial stability. There are people who have difficulties in paying their loans, bills and monthly rent.
For the people that have more than MVR10k owing to the state, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) holds the right to sue the offender. This allows MIRA to ask the court to force the offender to do the community service in order to justify the traffic violation fines. Only if the amount is totaling to more than MVR 10,000.00.
This seems to be a good opportunity for those having financial difficulties to pay off the traffic violations. However, this also means, no salary will be given to hand as the authorities will also decide how the community service hours will go towards paying off the fines.
So, would you do community service to pay off your traffic fines?
