Utility Regulatory Authority Will Look Into The Sudden Raise In STELCO Bills For July 2021

Utility Regulatory Authority was made through Environment Ministry on December 2020 in the purpose to oversee the water, sewerage and electrical problems the country faces. The objective is to abide by the rules and regulations and to maintain these rules via the companies providing these services to the public. 
 
Last month, there was a public outrage on social media regarding the electricity bill issued for the month of July 2021. Hundreds of households’ complaint of the sudden raise in their monthly bill and expressed their rage through social media outlets like twitter and Facebook. 
 
As per a statement released by a Stelco official, the subsidy that was previously given by the government has been taken out from July onwards and the raise in the bill amount was to be expected. He also shed light that due to COVID, some clients had difficulty paying the bills hence a COVID relief installment plan was published by Stelco to distribute the amount to future months. 
 
Stelco official also gave the guarantee to the public that they will recheck their bills if the clients require it and will reread the meters if necessary. 
 
The Utility Regulatory Authority released a public statement that they are looking into this issue and will perform a thorough investigation.
