Highlights From Team Maldives at the Olympics Games Tokyo 2020

Team Maldives is headed to yet another Olympics as the games has begun at Tokyo 2020. Hopeful and talented, team Maldives is participating in badminton, swimming and running. At the opening ceremony, young talents of Mubal Azzam Ibrahim and Nabaha Abdul Razzaq from swimming and badminton respectively, hoisted the Maldivian flag, welcoming a competitive spirit ahead.

On Sunday, Nabaha competed in the Women’s single group stage against Jiao Bing He from China, who is currently ranked number 9 in the world leaderboard. Positioned at ranking 252, Nabaha competed and lost at 21-6, and 21-3 in the match. On the following day, Nabaha faced Aghaeihajiagha Soraya, rank 111 in the world, and fought to end the match at 21-14, 21-7, win for Iran.

Swimmers Aishath Sajina and Mubal have also competed in respective heats. Sajina came 6th at the Women 100m Breaststroke heat while Mubal too secured 6th place at the Men 100m Freestyle heat. There were a total of 7 countries in each heat.

On Tuesday, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan, His Excellency Ibrahim Uvais paid a visit to the Team Maldives at the Olympics Games and praised their performances. He also encouraged the officials and players to remain hopeful and do their best, as them coming to the games itself is an achievement.
