Australia Donates a Generous 3.5 Tonnes of PPE to Maldives

On Tuesday, the Government of Maldives received a generous donation of 3.5 tonnes of Personal Protection Equipment by the Government of Australia.  
 
The donation by the Department of Defence of the Australian Government was received in the presence of the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka, Mr. Omar Abdul Razzak, and Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Ambassador to the Maldives, His Excellency David Holly. A special ceremony was held at the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the Australian Government has supported the Maldives in various capacities, with this latest donation bringing the financial value of the aid up to AUD 780,000. The donations over the past months includes PPE, capacity building for frontline workers & support for women & girls. 
 
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid acknowledged the generosity and thanked the Foreign MInister of Australia, Marise Payne on behalf of the Maldivian government for the continued assistance against the battle of preventing the spread of the Covid19 virus.
