Highlights from the President and First Lady’s Unofficial Visit to Sri Lanka

On July 20, 2021, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed departed on an unofficial visit to Sri Lanka. 
 
During their visit, President Solih paid a courtesy call to the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The meeting took place in the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, Colombo. High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Mr. Omar Abdul Razzak and the Maldives' Special Envoy for Climate Change, Ms. Sabra Noordeen also participated in the meeting. 
 
During the discussions, a number of issues including the ongoing unprecedented challenges of Covid 19 and the measures in place around the world to curb its effects, were touched upon. They emphasized on vaccination being the top priority for a faster and sustainable recovery, noting that it is key to ensure that the facilities are not overburdened.  
 
Both nations committed to further enhance the bilateral cooperation in the coming times.  
 
Ending the visit, both President Solih and First Lady Fazna returned to Male’ in the evening of Friday, July 23.
