On Thursday morning, the official ceremony was held for the official dedication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building to Uz. Fathulla Jameel as a lasting symbol to his many contributions.
Late Uz. Fathulla Jameel is an Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izuddin for his long and distinguished service to the nation. The multi-talented Uz. had served in many capacities, most significant being his devoted service to the Foreign Ministry. Hon. Uz. Fathulla Jameel is the longest serving Foreign Minister in the Maldives.
The honor on unveiling the building name was solemnized by the President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Ministry of Foreign Affairs building is now officially ‘Fathulla Jameel Building’. A special plaque placed inside the building demonstrates Uz. Fathulla Jameel’s valuable services during his 27 years and 4 months’ tenure as Foreign Minister of the Maldives.
Naming one of the most prominent ministries after one of its former Ministers is marks a historic day for the Maldivian Foreign Services, said President Solih in his speech during the ceremony. The building, located clearly amidst Malé City's panorama, had been masterminded by Uz Fathulla Jameel to stand as a paradigm of Maldivian culture and heritage.
President further reflected on the journey if Uz. Fathulla Jameel who had faithfully advocated for foreign policies aimed at protecting human rights and promoting unity, freedom and peace on a global stage. He also noted the Maldives' acceptance and success on the global stage were further evidenced by the landslide victory for the Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid in his recent successes in the post. The note of thanks was extended to include members of the Ministry for their hard work, dedication and undeterred commitment to serve, even during the most arduous times in the midst of a pandemic.
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also spoke highly of Uz. Fathulla Jameel, a visionary whom he had the honor of serving with as a junior Foreign Service Officer. Minister Shahid described him as a firm believer that a small country like the Maldives, should have a professional, skilled and efficient diplomatic service that could promote international relations, trade, tourism and our interactions with the international community.
On the occasion, daughters of Uz. Fathulla Jameel conveyed a message on behalf of the family, briefing about the commitment to his work by their father and the gratitude they have for the decision to honor it in such a significant manner.
The ceremony was also attended by the Vice-President His Excellency Faisal Naseem, Chief Justice Uz. Muthasim Adnan, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis Hon. Eva Abdulla, members of the Cabinet, the Diplomatic Corp, former and present members of the Maldives Foreign Service.
