India Gifts Vehicles To Maldives Correctional Services As Support.

Speaking at the virtual ceremony held yesterday, where Maldives accepted vehicles gifted by Indian government to Maldives Correctional services, Minister Shahid highlighted the crucial role played by MCS in the reform and reintegration of offenders back to society as productive citizens, and alluded to the importance of increasing the effectiveness of the institution in providing its services to the people of Maldives. 
 
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir, and Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu spoke at the ceremony. Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives Correctional Service and the High Commission of India in Maldives also participated in the ceremony. 
 
Out of the total allocated money of MVR 8 million for this project, a total of MVR 2,395,783.02 was spent to purchase one Toyota (Vitz) Mini Car, one Toyota passenger van (capacity of 12 passengers) and two Toyota vans (capacity of 9 passengers each). These vans will be used to escort inmates to court hearings, medical checkups and their homes upon the completion of their sentences. The Mini Car will be used to escort officials.
