Maldives Receives over MVR 5 Million as Aid from Pakistan

On Wednesday, another generous donation was made by the Government of Pakistan from the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund, to the Government of Maldives in order to assist with the ongoing efforts to curb the ill-effects of the Covid19 pandemic.  
 
Established in March 2020, the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund was launched in a the SAARC Heads of States and Governments summit in response to the ongoing pandemic hence, support the initiatives in the South Asian Region. The fund is financed by voluntary contributions from all SAARC Countries. 
 
A total value of USD 386,432 was handed over in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, symbolized with the exchange of a cheque for the grant. It was given by High Commissioner of Pakistan, Vice Admiral Ather Mukhtar and received by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.  
 
Minister Shahid expressed his immense gratitude on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the Government and people of Pakistan for their continued support during these trying times. Minister noted that the gesture demonstrates the strength of the fraternal relationship between the two nations and that the generosity is yet another milestone in the multitude of spheres that Pakistan assists Maldives with.
