A sensational milestone was reached in the aviation industry of Maldives with the introduction of ‘Flight Plan 2020-2025’; a civil aviation policy drafted for the next five years. This counts as the first time a strategic plan laying down a definitive reference point to steer aviation development in the long-term has been put down on paper. It was signed today by Minster of Transport and Civil Aviation, Her Excellency, Ms. Aishath Nahula, calling the policy into effect.
The main goal it is envisaged to achieve by the introduction of the ‘Flight Plan 2020-2025’ is to link our islanders with each other and also the rest of the world in a safe, sustainable and economically feasible manner which will be achieved through the five main pillars the policy was built on.
The policy will guide all involved parties in the aviation industry, the government and donors on what development priorities should be carried out during this period of time to collaboratively move forward in the same direction.
As travel restrictions to Maldives has been lifted whereas the country has resumed its tourism industry activities; the policy is envisioned to reflect positively in the tourism sector as well, especially amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
