HPA Revises guidelines for Tourists, Work-Permit Holders and Locals Arriving in Maldives from South Asian Countries

Last May 8, travelers, locals and work-permit holders were banned from arriving in the Maldives due to the surge of uncontrolled Covid spread in the Indian subcontinent and its neighboring countries. This measure was taken in order to safekeep the reviving tourism industry and also to safeguard the public from dangerously fast-spreading virus strands entering the country.

In light of the situation getting better in the past months, Health Protection Agency has revived the measures and the following measures will come into effect this month.

From July 7, 2021 onwards

  • Work-permit holders arriving in the Maldives under HPA guidelines are mandated to quarantine in HPA allocated facilities for a 14-day period. Upon completion of quarantine, a PCR test will be conducted and a negative result will allow them to venture ahead.
  • Locals arriving in the Maldives from South Asian countries have to quarantine for a mandatory 14-day period, and a PCR test must be done within 48 – 72 hours of arrival.

From July 15, 2021 onwards

  • Tourists arriving in Maldives will be given on-arrival visa. The current tourist arrival regulations apply.
