MedTech Granted Approval by HPA to Use 15-Minute Result Generating COVID-19 Testing Kit

Medtech Maldives Private Limited (Medtech) is the authorized distributor of the American based Abbott Company produced laboratory test equipments in Maldives. Abbott Company ranks at the top amongst companies in the word building life-changing medical technologies.

One of their latest inventions is; the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag CARD, a speedy, affordable and also portable testing solution of for detecting active COVID-19 infections. The testing kit is designed to produce results within mere 15 minutes by using proven lateral flow technology. They have further stated that the testing kit has shown a testing sensitivity of 97.1% with specificity of 98.5% during the testing phase. It will not use any additional equipment whereas the test can be conducted with just a nasal swab to a kit similar in size to a credit card.

Accordingly, Medtech as the authorized distributor has recently introduced this testing kit to Maldives. The Company announced via twitter that they have been granted approval from Health Protection Agency (HPA) to use the kit for rapid testing in Maldives under specified conditions.

In this regard, the test should be done within 7 days’ post exhibiting symptoms but whereas the test is done after 5 days of exhibiting symptoms, the result must be verified through a PCR test. Testing will only be carried out at health facilities which meets the conditions and regulations set out by HPA by a trained health care worker.
