Ministry of Tourism (MoT) and Health Protection Agency (HPA) jointly conducted a training program on general health to resort workers and health care workers based at resorts on 11th October 2020. Two sessions were held under the program for a duration of 3 hours with a total of 137 persons taking part in. According to the press release by Ministry regarding the subject, this is the fourth time a program of such kind has been conducted.
Since travel restrictions to Maldives was lifted on July 15 during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the government has been tirelessly working on marketing Maldives as a safe destination for tourists in the light of efficient safety precautions in practice specifically in tourist facilities. Thus, the program is of utmost importance at the moment guiding resort workers and health care workers on practicing the highest standards of health safety measures at their work environment as well as in serving tourists.
Post re-opening of the borders, a total number of 18,867 tourists have arrived in Maldives up until October. Minister of Tourism, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Mausoom anticipates that more than 100,000 tourists would be visiting the country in the remaining days of the year.
Apart from this training program, the Ministry has also geared up to hold a Compliance Officer Training Program targeted for tourism industry workers in collaboration with European Institute for Export Compliance (EIFEC) and Maldives National University (MNU). This program will commence on 20th October.
