Avid College has rebranded and established the Avid School of Aviation in a virtual ceremony held with the Asian Academy of Aeronautics on Thursday. This is officially the first local owned and operated flying school in the Maldives. Avid accomplished this by buying-in on the ownership of the Flying School in Addu City from the AAA and taking over the establishment.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of Avid College, Abdulla Musthaq. He stated in the ceremony that the aim of Avid College is to provide a solution to the long-standing problems of the flying school over the past years and work alongside the students in establishing an all-in-one solution for those interested in the aviation industry in the Maldives.
He said that priority at the moment will be to assist the current batch of 170 students to complete their studies. Although flying will recommence around September this year, preparations for the student exams and theoretical classes will begin immediately.
The Avid School of Aviation will become a faculty of training for pilots, cabin crew, flight engineers, and other related sectors in the aviation industry. Avid is also in the process of obtaining their own license to operate the flying school. This is expected to take about 6 months according to Musthaq. He further stated that discussions are ongoing with the IATA experts to facilitate professional IATA courses at the school once operations begin.
