Maldives Journalist Association Lands Associate Membership with International Federation of Journalists

The Maldives Journalist Association has made its way back to being a member of the International Federation of Journalists as an Associate Member. The grand welcome was made at the IFJ Exco meeting held on Tuesday.

MJA represents Maldivian journalists and acts as an advocator of press freedom and safeguards the freedom of speech. After brief discontinuation of the NGO, work had recommenced and within a short period of time, MJA was able to complete all necessary requirements to become an IFJ member.

IFJ is a global representation organization with the participation of over 600,000 media professionals from 187 trade unions and associations in more than 140 countries. As a member, MJA can facilitate opportunities for local journalists to participate and raise their voices on international platforms and forums.

This milestone was one of MJA’s short-term goals when they became active again. The association extends gratitude and appreciation for journalists for their continued support in bringing positive changes to the work of journalists.
