Minister Shauna delivered her remarks at the session held on June 22, titled ‘Integrated Energy Planning for Driving Outcomes and Investment’. Representing a country with enormous challenges in driving sustainability, her speech was focused on Innovation, Technology and Data.
She touched upon the Maldives’ unfortunate dependency on imported fuels in meeting its energy needs. In lieu of the sustainability drives, she mentioned the government’s efforts in alternating this with the abundant sunshine to derive renewable energy in the times to come. However, the nation is in dire need of foreign capital and investments to make this a possibility.
With the modernization of intelligent, sophisticated data-based technology, the new business model drives are going to be a key advantage for the Maldives to attract the capital it needs to keep the momentum building and rolling in the Maldives as per the Minister. She also talked about the fast-paced advancements in the digital sector that could potentially transform the Maldives if we can come up with ways to maximize the benefit of innovation and digital transformation in our institutions.
Even though an era of innovation and transformation lies ahead, Minister Shauna invited all participants to discuss openly on the fundamental changes in the development, and opportunities regarding Innovation, Technology and Data that could solidify great opportunities in the Maldives.
