11-Year-Old Becomes First Patient to Receive Insulin Pump from The National Diabetes Centre at IGMH

Established in October 2020, The National Diabetic Centre located in Dharumavantha Hospital is a central facility that can provide all services relevant to diabetic patients.  
 
For the first time in since its full setup, the Centre has handed over a state-of-the-art 640G Medtronic Insulin Pump to a 11-year-old patient with type-1 diabetes. This machine provides quick and advanced protection from hypo-events with its 3-1 blood glucose meter that gives added convenience. It also has a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) technology that tracks glucose levels in your body 24 hours a day. 
 
The machine was provided under assistance from the National Social Protection Agency. 
 
Diabetes is a 2-type chronic disease that affects the insulin production in the body. According to statistics, Maldives has a Diabetes prevalence of 9,2% among 20- – 79-year-olds.
