MTCC CEO Inspects Progress of "Integrated National Public Ferry Network Project" at Site

In April 2021, Maldives Transport and Contracting Company signed an agreement with Gulf Craft for the design and built 17 speed ferries following being awarded the first phases of the “Integrated National Public Ferry Network” project by the Government of Maldives in January 2021.

The integrated national public ferry network will introduce reliable, efficient, affordable, convenient, and sustainable passenger ferry service to our customers. Yesterday, CEO of MTCC made a visit to the Gulf Craft boatyard for an inspection on the progress of the manufacturing process.

The ferries being built will be an upgrade compared to the current vessels in operation. They will run at thrice the speed whilst accommodating 50 passengers onboard. In addition to this, the modern ferries will be air-conditioned and spacious with restrooms attached, and a dedicated area to store luggage of passengers. Moreover, the ferries will be designed in such a way that it will be convenient for all passengers including differently abled people to board the vessel.

MTCC has simultaneously been making progress in the establishment of ferry terminals for the integrated national public ferry network. The ground-breaking of the first ferry terminal in this regard was at HA. Hoarafushi.
