Coastal protection of Girifushi Island Project have been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company in an official ceremony held for the signing at Maldives National Defence Force Headquarters on yesterday afternoon.
The agreement was signed by Commander Brigadier General, Hamid Shafeeq from MNDF and CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim. According to the agreement, a breakwater stretching 314 meters will be reconstructed within 145 days’ time.
Defence Minister, Mariya Didi graced the ceremony. In the speech concluding the signing, she expressed her gratitude towards continued support provided to MNDF by MTCC. She was joined by Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamal and managerial members of the organization. Senior members of MTCC also attended the ceremony.
The previously built harbor on the island had worn off over time since it was first built in 1998. Despite constant repair, a permanent solution was not obtained until now. Due to this, a number of damages are attained to the vehicles harbored at the jetty under extreme weather conditions. It also interrupts the ongoing training sessions that have to be carried out in the waters.
The project is valued at MVR 18.35 million.
