On June 10, a ceremony was held in STO to sign an agreement between Ministry of Finance and the State Trading Organization, contracting STO for the supply of 96 ambulances to be used in operation at the atolls.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem, Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer, and Managing Director of STO, Husen Amru. STO is given a 180 day time-period to complte the supply of the ambulances.
The project is aimed to find a solution for the much-needed demand for ambulance services in the larger islands in the atolls. Minister of Health stated that the service is a primary essential service that must be provided on all the islands. After completion and deployment, the ambulances will bridge the gap between emergency response teams and the hospitals and provide essential transportation services at the times of need to those who are injured or otherwise in need of the service.
