Maldives and Bangladesh Talks of Boosting Close Defence Corporation

On Thursday morning, Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General Aziz Ahmed paid a courtesy call on Honourable Minister of Defence Uza. Mariya Didi during his visit to the Maldives.  
 
The meeting was held at MNDF Integrated Headquarters in Bandaara Koshi. Minister Maria was joined by Military Secretary to the Minister of Defence Bangladesh, Abdul Matheen Ahmed, Principal Director of DIDC, LTC Hussain Fairoosh, and Director of Anti-Human Trafficking, Mr. Ali Jaishan Amir.

Discussions between both the Ministers were mainly focused on boosting the close ties of Defence Cooperation between the Maldives and Bangladesh. This included further strengthening coorporation in the areas of capacity-building in Disaster Relief operations and Anti-Human Trafficking efforts, increasing allotments for Maldivian doctors at the Armed Forces Medical College and training opportunities for Maldivian military personnel. 
 
Minister Mariya reflected back on the generous assistance rendered to the Maldives in times of need, ranging from the 2004 Tsunami to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the meeting. She thanked General Aziz Ahmed and the Government and friendly people of Bangladesh for their continued assistance to Maldives in various capacities.  
 
Also, thanking General Aziz for visiting the Maldives even in this difficult pandemic-striken time, Minister Mariya conveyed warm greetings and gratitude on behalf of President and Commander-in-Chief His Excellency Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. In return, the Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh General Aziz Ahmed also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Solih, the Government and people of Maldives on behalf of the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, the people of Bangladesh and himself.
