HDC Carries Mosquito Fogging in Hulhumale

Housing Development Corporation is carrying out regular mosquito fogging twice daily in the city under the vecotr borne disease control initiative. The fogging is conducted throughout selected areas of Hulhumale and at the Covid Facility in Farukolhufushi and Detox Center in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 as well.

HDC reports that the insecticide used in the mosquito fogging is a synthetic pyrethroid that is very similar to the insecticides used in most domestic insect spray cans that are found on supermarket shelves. Therefore, it is safe to be used. Furthermore, WHO reports that there will be no adverse health effects on people who are occasionally exposed to the fog because the amount of insecticide in the fog is very small, and is dispersed at quantities that can only kill something as small as a mosquito.

The fogging is carried out at 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. by team of HDC, carefully aligning the timing with when the vector is observed to be most active. Fogging at the Covid facility and detox center is done at 4 p.m. every day.
