Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds a virtual ceremony to mark the completion of the M. Kolhufushi Streetlights Project today. This project was funded with a grant of MVR 1.5 million, under the Indian Grant Assistance of MVR 106 million.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of the Project to the people of Kolhufushi, and thanked the Indian Government for facilitating this important project. Under the project, streetlights have been installed across the island, with the purpose of reducing instances of crime and providing a state of enhanced security and safety for the local community and thus, improving the overall quality of life in the island.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Sunjay Sudhir, Member of Parliament for Mulaku Constituency Ibrahim Naseer, President of the Kolhufushi Council Hussain Shamil and officials of the Government, Kolhufushi Council and the High Commission of India in Maldives.
The financial support has been provided from the grant assistance of MVR 106 million granted to the Government of Maldives by the Government of India in March 2019. The aim of the grant assistance is to conduct socio-economic development projects across the country which are of high impact. The projects under this grant are managed by local authorities.
