Housing development Corporation initiated the project of cleaning the public areas in Hulhumale on May 10. Scheduled to proceed for two weeks, the initiative was aimed to make the public spaces visually appealing to those living in Hulhumale’ and those visiting the city for recreational purposes.
Being one of the most developed residential aeras in the whole of Maldives, Hulhumale is a popular destination. In this regard, maintaining the beauty of the landscapes require constant effort from both the residents and concerned authorities at all times.
Staff of the municipal department of HDC have been collecting litter from common public areas, summing up to over 54 Tonnes being collected in 10 days' time. The collected waste includes general single-use waste, damaged household items, construction materials, etc. The waste is discarded with assistance from WAMCO, who has a number of services allocated for public use when having to get rid of small to large quantities of waste materials. HDC urges the public to utilize these services instead of just discarding the waste on to the roads and littering the public spaces.
An average of 5 to 6 Tonnes of waste is collected from Hulhumalé neighbourhoods every single day. Let's all take individual responsibility in maintaining basic hygiene and cleanliness in Hulhumale.
