Following the announcement of setting up empty space at M. Boduge to a parking zone, Male’ city Mayor, Dr. Muizzu tweeted a call for artists who are interested in decorating the walls of the space with drawings representing the Maldivian culture and heritage. The tweet was responded by the artist community who expressed their disagreement with free work and concerns of the underlying issues faced by artists who are not compensated for the work they are asked to do in the Maldives.
In light of the response, Mayor Muizzu conversed with concerned authorities and revised his announcement, with an apology stating that the initial intention was never to “not acknowledge the value of the creativity and tenant or the difficulty the artists are in.” Henceforth, the project is now up for bidding for interested parties who can paint the walls of M. Boduge parking zone with art depicting the local rich Islamic culture and beauty of the Maldives.
Artists can register for the bid by completing the Bid Registration form and emailing it to bids@malecity.gov.mv by 2 p.m. on June 7, 2021. Once accepted, the applicant will receive a notification slip with a registration number for the bid. There will be no pre-bid meeting for this particular bid.
