You Will Need a Permit to Go Vaccinate Now

It is concerning that since January 2021, more than half of the positive cases were recorded in people between the ages of 18 and 49. 40% of this group are unvaccinated, according to HPA.

As of yesterday, 161, 454 people across the country have completed their designated two doses of covid vaccine. Due to certain challenges, a large number of people are currently awaiting the availability of Covishield vaccines to get their second dose. However, Sinopharm and Pfizer vaccines are being administered to the public in the Maldives now. The police permit to go to vaccine centers in the Greater Male Region can be obtained on the police portal under the Medical (non-emergency) category.

People in the Greater Male Region can administer the first and second dose of Sinopharm vaccines from the National Art Gallery, Villimale’ Youth Center and Tree Top Hospital between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. from today onwards. Everyone above the age of 18 are eligible to receive the first dose while those for whom three weeks have passed since their first dose can obtain the second jab.

Pregnant women too can now get their vaccines by registering with HPA. Those who have recently been or are in quarantine must have a negative PCR test taken at the end of the duration. 28 days must have passed since the onset of the diagnosis for those who have tested positive to be eligible to get vaccinated. You can register for vaccination here.

The continued requests to the public to go and vaccinate is coming from the urgent need to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the devastating effects of the virus once contracted. The new strain of the virus recorded spreading in the Maldives have proven to be stronger and cause more ill effects to patients. Even though vaccines are not a 100% security against the virus, it is proven to greatly reduce disease severity. Vaccination is the the most effective tools in the fight against Covid-19.
