Last year, Ministry of Tourism conducted a training program for Local Councils to strengthen their authority with regard tourism activities carried out in their respective islands. A total number of 199 Local Councils participated in this training program.
The content of the program revolved around registration procedures of new guesthouses and travel agencies to be based on the island and how to independently carry out the inspection of existing guesthouses and travel agencies mandated for renewal of the registration. An announcement was made today by the Ministry of Tourism that they will be conducting a virtual refresher of the same program on October 10th. An additional content regarding new registrations procedures of Dive Centers will be delivered in the training program.
The Ministry of Tourism believes that facilitation of registrations of new guesthouses, travel agencies and dive centers through Local Council will make the process hassle free and much faster than dealing with the Ministry directly, for persons not inhabiting in Male’ City.
Maldives holds ‘Safe Travel’ stamp issued by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and is open for tourist arrivals with minor restrictions. All tourists arriving must evidence a negative result of COVID-19 PCR test taken at least 72 hours prior to their arrival.
