Stricter Measures to be Introduced from Tomorrow Onwards

Starting from May 26, 2021, the following restrictive measures must be observed in the Greater Male’ Region.  

  • Restriction of vehicle and people movement from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. as part of the extended curfew hours 
  • Restaurants, cafes and other food outlets remain closed at all times to dine-in and takeaway services 
  • Shops, restaurants, cafes and other food outlets can operate deliveries from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. with permit issued by Ministry of Economic Development 
  • A fine of MVR 5000 imposed on businesses operating services except deliveries 
  • Travel between Male’ and Hulhumale’ discontinued, bridge to remain closed to non-emergency travel 
  • Two individuals from each household allowed scheduled permits to go outside between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Permits will be issued for every registered electricity meter, and allowed a time period of 4 hours starting 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. and are to be used ONLY for essential services outside.  


The latest statistics report that over 24,000 active cases are being observed in the Maldives. 75 islands are currently under monitoring status. The alarming spread of the virus is straining available human power to fight against the medical demands; hence, new restrictive measures are being announced.
