India to Extent National Knowledge Network Services to the Maldives under USD 2 Million Grant

The multi gigabit company of India, National Knowledge Network, is a mission that aims to inter-connect all knowledge and research institutions in India through a high bandwidth network. Its services will soon be provided in the Maldives, under a grant fund of USD 2 Million extended to the Maldives by India.

The project was a request from the Maldivian Government to assist the nation in establishing a high-speed National Research and Education Network, a development that would knit all Research and Development institutions across the archipelago, including schools and government agencies, together.

An announcement by the High Commision of India in the Maldives thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology for facilitating the arrangement. The services will be coordinated through the National Center of Information Technology.

NKN has already achieved international success with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka utilising its services. In its framework of development to be brought to the Maldives, the public and the government will largely benefit from Expedited e-governance, Access to public facing sites, Access to data centers, Dedicated internet links for connecting research communities, and more.
