Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture have announced that they have opened bid submissions for the lease of uninhabited islands for agricultural investments. The objective of this is in line with the current’s administrations hopes of increasing and diversifying agricultural output (inclusive of poultry and farm animals) of the country in order to decrease the number of food products imported to the country, which was devised under their 5-year strategic action plan.
Presently, bid submission have been opened for 6 uninhabited islands being;
Madulu in Haa Alif Atoll
Kakaaeriyadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll
Neyo in Shaviyani Atoll
Tholhendhoo in Noonu Atoll
Maa’doo in Baa Atoll
Oinigilla in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll
Islands are set to be leased for a period of 21 years where its annual rent will amount to 10 laari per square foot. However, lessees will be subjected to allocate at least 30% of the island to carry out farming of products mandated by the Ministry.
Eligible and interested parties can request for purchase Bid Document via text or email, before 11th October. Bid Documents will be available for purchase from 14th October to 5th November for MVR 2000. Each island will have a separate Bid Document. An information session regarding the bid will be held via zoom whereas further details of this would be shared at a later time for all parties who has sent a request for purchase of the Bid Document.
