Familiarization Trips, commonly referred to as Fam Trips are educational trips organized exclusively for media partners, travel agents and resellers by travel operators and marketers.
Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) is a government body mandated to market Maldives as a tourist destination. Part of their work is to facilitate such trips, however when travel restrictions were imposed in Maldives by the Government due to the outbreak of COVID-19, MMPRC halted the organization of such trips. Travel restrictions to Maldives was lifted on July, however, Fam Trips organized by MMPRC have only been revealed to have been resumed, today.
In this regard, MMPRC is hosting a media team from India, under the new theme “Rediscover Maldives - The Sunny Side of Life.” The main goal MMPRC hopes to achieve from this Fam Trip is to showcase Maldives as a safe and ideal holiday destination amidst the COVID-19 pandemic; citing rigid safety measures imposed by the government. In this regard, MMPRC has welcomed 5 journalists from major media outlets of India for a stay of 6 nights in Maldives at Kandima Maldives and Heritance Aarah. They will have the chance to experience wellness activities, snorkeling, sunset cruises, signature cuisines etc during their stay.
India being geographically close in proximity to Maldives and having maintained a strong bilateral relationship with the country is one of the main reasons why MMPRC has recently increased marketing efforts specially targeted to Indian tourists. Two other marketing campaigns have already been commenced under this effort; one targeted promote Maldives as a honeymoon destination and the second being a radio campaign promoting Maldives as ‘The Sunny Side of Life”.
