Housing Development Corporation is seeking enthusiastic local architect talents to undertake one of the most ambitious design projects in Hulhumale’. Developed in affiliation with the Ministry of Economic Development, the Design Competition for Central Park Mosque & Religious Center is part of HDC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The largest recreational park in the Maldives being developed is the Central Park in Hulhumale’. The concept is based on it being more than just a park, making it a catalyst for community development through various interesting input. In the midst of rapid urban development, the park and its surrounding open area facilitate ample space for entrepreneurial, physical, cultural as well as social activities.
Adding to its offerings, the proposed Central Park Mosque and Religious Center comprising of an Islamic Library will reflect the cultural functionality of Central Park. It should be designed with inspiration from traditional Maldivian architecture in efforts of making the landmark building inherently Maldivian.
With the help of a competitive environment concept, HDC aims to give local architects the opportunity to give back to the built-environment community. The competition is open for young and new talents registered at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure to showcase their collaborative competence and come up with an exciting project. The anonymous process results in a fair and unbiased evaluation where the winner is selected purely based on their merit.
Registrations for interested parties will close on May 27, followed by closing of query submission on June 2, 2021. An information session will be held on June 7. all participants must submit their concepts by August 8, 2021. After thorough evaluation by a committee of judges comprising of members from HDC, Architectural Practitioner, Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Heritage and Culture, and Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the grand winner will be announced on August 29, 2021.
