According to recent statistics, there is a concerning number of Covid cases among pregnant women. 50 pregnant women are currently being diagnosed for Covid at the moment, 1 of whom is being treated in the ventilator. Deliberations have been ongoing regarding their eligibility to get vaccinated since the status of those who test positive recently have been observed to be more critical than before.
So far, pregnant women have been asked to refrain from receiving Covid vaccine. 3 approved vaccines are being administered to the public in the Maldives. While 302,974 have taken their first shot, 142, 913 have completed the designated 2 doses.
Health Protection Agency of the Maldives has opened registration for Pregnant Women to receive the Pfizer vaccine in an announcement made yesterday. Pfizer vaccine is the safest vaccine being administered in the country at the moment, with minimal side effects. Jabs will be administered only to registered pregnant women on a first-come-first-serve basis and registration can be done via this link.
Furthermore, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at IGMH has opened up their OB Ememrgency hotline – 3308234 – for pregnant women to report positive and suspected cases, and to request for emergency Obstetric care. Doctor on call will attend the request and advice patients accordingly. This initiative was taken in order to assist pregnant women who are in a more critical stage that experience difficulties in reaching out to HPA on their hotline.
