HPA Extends Restrictive Measures Further 14 Days

 In an announcement made last night, the Health Protection Agency of the Maldives has extended the ongoing restrictive measures for a period of 14 days. The extension is applied on measures that were initially announced on May 5 for a period of 10 days.  

The current measures in place are: 

  • Restricting inter island travel for reasons other than medical emergencies, regardless of completion of 2 doses of Covid vaccine 
  • Discontinuing recreational facilities and services, such as gyms, parks, sports complexes, in the Greater Male’ Region 
  • Mandatory 14-day quarantine imposed on locals and work-permit holders returning to the Maldives from South Asian countries 
  • Mandatory 10-day quarantine for locals traveling to inhabited islands from commercial islands 
  • Curfew hours to be observed from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. 
  • Congregated prayers halted until further notice 


Additional measures currently being observed include the closure of government offices for a further week and online classes to be conducted for grade school students. Moreover, tourist visa for travelers from South Asian countries has also been discontinued.
