Sri Lanka, once an often-visited destination by Maldivians, has once again announced tighter travel entry requirements for travelers from around the world. The measures take into account the worsening covid situations around the world, and alarmingly, in the biggest source markets to the destination.
The new entry requirements state that all travelers entering Sri Lanka from now until May 31, 2021, a mandatory 14-day quarantine will be imposed irrelevant of their vaccination status. They are also subject to an on-arrival PCR test. The quarantine facility will be decided by the government of Sri Lanka, and includes quarantine hotels, centers, and Level-1 designated hotels.
Upon completion of the quarantine, all travelers above the age of 12 years will have to undergo two exit PCR tests taken on the 11th and the 14th day of the quarantine. Only children age 2 years or younger will not be subject to PCR Testing. All test results must come back negative for the traveller to be released for the rest of the duration of their stay.
Even though tighter measures of on-arrival quarantine have been announced, travelers arriving to Sri Lanka on critical emergency cases who wish to quarantine at the hospital will be allowed to travel for medical purposes. They will have to have a special permit issued by both the respective hospital and the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka for the arrangements to be made accordingly.
The measures are subject to change further given the developments on the Covid situation in Sri Lanka and its source markets. Travelers are cautioned to keep up to date with the latest developments before making any travel arrangements.
