Restrictive Measures to Curb Covid Spread Extended Until End of This Week

In a directive issued by the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on May 13, 2021, government offices have been instructed to remain closed until May 22, 2021. This is an extension of the previously issued week-long closure, in line with the restrictive measures imposed by the Health Protection Agency across the nation.

In addition to government offices, schools will remain closed for the duration under instructions by the Ministry of Education, with classes continuing to be conducted online.

The alarmingly high rate of positive cases being detected in various parts of the country has forced curfew and monitoring measures being taken in more than 40 islands as of date, with death tolls exceeding 95 since the pandemic hit.

The current ongoing measures in the Greater Male’ Region include a curfew restriction movement of people between 4 p.m. to 4 a.m., closing food outlets for in-house dining, take-away and delivery service allowed until midnight with permit as an alternative, community prayers in mosques halted, and inter-island travel restricted to only emergency and medical cases.

The public is urged to follow the measures in place and take precautionary measures at all times when outside.
