Travelers From South Aisa Banned Entry to Maldives, Random Inspections Deployed Across Tourist Establishments in the Country

It has been officially announced that travelers from South Asian countries will no longer be permitted entry to the Maldives until further notice following tightening measures against the Covid19 surge recently observed in the Maldives.

This measure is a follow-up of restriction entry of work-permit holders from South Asian countries a few days back. Prior to that, travelers visiting the Maldives from South Asian countries were prohibited from staying in tourist establishments in local islands.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism also joins in the efforts to control the Covid19 spread in the communities by deploying random inspections across guesthouses and hotels in inhabited islands. This is an impromptu measure to ensure that all regulations and guidelines regarding the new normal are being followed by such outlets with safety and wellbeing of guests, employees and the community in mind.

The inspections will be carried out in the Greater Male’ Region by the Ministry of Tourism and on local islands with the unison of Island Councils, City Councils and respective Task Forces. Should the guesthouse or hotel be found not complying with the regulations, necessary measures will be taken against their continued operations until all issued noted are not rectified.
