4-4 Curfew and More Restrictions Laid Down ahead of Eid Holidays

After careful evaluation of the current situation of Covid19 in the Greater Male’ Region, Health Protection agency on yesterday announced further strict measures to be imposed starting today for a period of one week. They are to be observed in Male, Hulhumale and Villimale. 

The new measures are as follows:  

  • Curfew time extended from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. every day. People are instructed to stay indoors and should they require to go out during curfew time, police permit is required. Vehicle movement is also restricted during curfew hours.  
  • Restaurants, cafés and other food outlets to close in-house dining and opt delivery and take out services. Special permits will be issued by the police for delivery during curfew hours, until midnight.  
  • Mosques close for congregational prayers until further notice 


The President has instructed relevant authorities to strictly monitor the obedience of the public in abiding by the measures put in place. In this regard, Maldives Defence Force will be assisting Maldives Police Services in enforcing regulations during curfew hours.  

It has been noticed recently that a lot of businesses rebel against the measures announced by HPA on numerous occasions. HPA has strictly said that such businesses will be closed down for 24 hours if they disregard the measures. Impromptu searches are being conducted by HPA in the meantime to ensure all businesses are operating according to the set guidelines.  

The public is urged to comply by the safety restrictions in collective efforts to curb the rising Covid19 concerns and spread across the country.
