Hulhumale Hospital to be Uses as a Covid Facility, Will Continue Selected Services

Hospital beds in the Greater Male’ Region have reached maximum occupancy in the past two weeks, alarming the healthcare system in the nation. Taking into account the urgent need to take further preventive measures and prepare for worsening situations, HEOC has announced that the separate building of the Hulhumale Hospital, including some facilities in the main building, will be downgraded for use a Covid Facility in the coming days. 

Yesterday, Hulhumale Hospital also made an announcement saying that only selected services will be provided by the hospital until further notice. They are: 

  • 24-hour emergency service 
  • ANC services for booked cases 
  • Dialysis service 
  • Oncology service 
  • Routine Vaccination for children 
  • Laboratory services 
  • Radiology services 


This decision was also made as a considerate measure to align services with the current restrictive measures in place to stop the spread of Covid in the region.  

Regarding the Covid facility to be arranged at Hulhumale Hospital, Director of HPA, Ahmed Nasir informed that 120 beds in total will be used for operation including the 58 of the beds in use now at the hospital. An ICU facility will also be arranged as part of the Covid facility.
