In a statement released by the Maldives Meteorological Services yesterday, it has been announced that as a pre-monsoon influence, fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy thunderstorms is expected over the next 5 days. The effect will be experienced across the Maldives.
There is a high possibility of strong winds and rough seas during this time and it is expected to rise wind speed up to 45-55 mph during storms. Also, authorities warn against possible wave surges therefore, residents in flood-prone islands are advised to take precautionary measures to prevent any water damages to their homes.
Furthermore, Coast Guard services urge all seafarers to ensure that safety equipment are up to regulatory standards and necessary preventive measures are taken before planning any journey during this time. It is also requested to inform relative authorities and personnel of plans of the trip to ensure emergency aid is provided in time should any unfortunate circumstances arise at sea. If trips can be postponed in light of bad weather ahead, it is highly recommended.
