Minister Shahid Addresses the Unrest in Afghanistan and the Escalating Situation in East Jerusalem

A devastating blast in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan targeting the Syed-Al-Shahda school in western Kabul. At least 150 people, many of them young women, were injured in the attack that followed a death count in the dozens.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wish a speedy recovery to all those wounded in a special message sent to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Haneef Atmar yesterday.

He expressed support and emphasis on the commitment to combat violent extremism and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations on behalf of the Maldives to Afghanistan at this time of unrest in the country.

In a separate statement, Minister Shahid also condemned the violent attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinian civilians in the occupied territory of East Jerusalem. The attacks have been escalating over the recent weeks from forceful eviction of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, and the attacks on unarmed Muslim worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan in the Al-Aqsa mosque complex.

He pointed out the clear violative nature of the attacks that are against international law and the relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions that undermines all efforts to achieve stability in the region.

Minister further advised on a two-state resolution for the ultimate peace and security of the Middle Eastern region. He reaffirmed the solidarity with the Government of the State of Palestine, and reiterates its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
